133: Stepping Into Your Ideal Self

133: Stepping Into Your Ideal Self

SHOW DESCRIPTION

When Rohit works with clients who are wanting to challenge their lives and become the best version of themselves that they can be, he often begins by asking them a simple question: What are the traits you feel a successful person would have? Once they come up with this list, it’s easy to find instances in their own lives where they have lived those traits. So if they have done it before, why can’t they do it again?

For example, let’s take public speaking. This is a quality that most people would want in their lives, but get nervous and talk themselves out of it. What are the traits that a person who is a successful speaker would have? Let’s say confidence, courage, and knowledgeable. Well, can you think of instances in your life when you have felt one of these traits? The answer is always yes, so why can’t you just step into those traits now?

It’s easy to talk ourselves out of doing the things that challenge us, but that is also how we become complacent and stop growing. Which version of you do you really want to be?

132: Hidden Reasons You Procrastinate

SHOW DESCRIPTION

The greatest obstacle that we all face is procrastination. It’s a terrible habit we all admit to having, yet so few of us will take any action to alleviate this destroyer of productivity and lives. We touch on procrastination at its heart in the episode Sitting on Nails, where we understand that this negative behavior hurts us, but it doesn’t hurt us enough to take any action. Think of your job. Chances are when you first got there you were so excited to be a part of the vision of the overall company. Then day by day, week by week, month by month, and for many, year by year, you come to have resentment for that place. Just the thought of walking into the building fills you with negative emotions. Why is that though?

The truth is we are far less likely to procrastinate at work because there are several layers of accountability. But in your personal life, you don’t have the accountability, leading to very little encouragement. We also can’t hold ourselves accountable because we break promises with ourselves all the time, without serious consequences. How many of us set New Year’s Resolutions and then break them without a second thought? So we can’t even trust ourselves to hold us accountable.

The problem then lies in recognition. Why do we procrastinate, how are we doing it, and what are the hidden reasons we do it. Those are all explored in this episode, of the GYSTPodcast.

130: Your Own Magical Movie Moment

SHOW DESCRIPTION

We’ve mentioned several times over the podcast that it’s difficult for us to see our own magic such as talents, skills, and key characteristics. We downplay these things and pass them off as “no big deal”, even though we have dedicated hour upon hour to crafting our skills and abilities.

If our life was a movie, what would be the key defining moment? A moment where you step into a new you, redefining yourself as the main character in your own life? Finding such a moment can be difficult, but so important to developing your confidence moving forward.

One of the first things that you can do is what is called the Victory Pose. You know, the way Superman stands with his hands on his hips, chest out, big smile on his face. Or maybe you have your hands up like you just won a marathon race. Both of these poses are scientifically shown to increase the positive chemicals in your brain and trigger feelings of happiness.

Once you have done that, reflect on your life. What moment would you choose to be your movie moment? What did you have to overcome to get past your comfort zone? Thinking about these things will help propel you to a life greater than you are leading today, and then the next day, and so on ?

SHOW DESCRIPTION

Quick quiz for you:

  1. Are you happy with the status of your current bank account?
  2. Are you happy with the results of your current health?

If both of those answers are no, which I’m sure is 100% of you, you need to take different steps, change your beliefs, and then take action.

This can very quickly lead to a situation where you feel overwhelmed. For many, even answering those two questions honestly can be overwhelming. So we think we only need to change our actions and it will get us different results. However, if your thinking doesn’t change, you will be back to the way that you are. Did you know that the majority of lottery winners are back to the same amount of money that they had before they won within just a couple of years? It’s because they didn’t change their thinking.

If you have created your life around only $80k a year, and then you get $2m a year, that’s so far outside of your comfort zone that you will go back to repeating the same programs that got you to $80k a year.

In this episode, we take a look at why that is, and how all it really takes is 20 minutes a day to make a dramatic improvement in your life. It’s easier than you think it is. What do you have to lose, isn’t 20 minutes worth the life without the frustrations your currently experiencing?
