SHOW DESCRIPTION

Oh Boy! This is one exciting episode! Just having the thought of new car makes me want to go buy a new car, and then, of course, the new car smell. Ladies and Gentlemen, I don’t care what you say, but there is no freshener out there that smells like a new car smell! Every time I pick up a car freshener with the title “New Car Smell” I get so excited, like a fat kid for an Ice Cream (hmm chocolate ice-cream), but then I get disappointed every single time. I have not found it, have you? If so then feel free to send a recommendation to kamal@gystpodcast.com!

As exciting as it may be to have a brand new car, it might not be as exciting to actually go through the process of buying a car. If you have gone through the process, then you know the pain of going to different car sales lot every weekend, test driving bunch of cars, and when you have finally liked a car that you a want then you have to go through them. Yeah, you know who I am talking about. Salespeople. Oh god, you can easily waste 6-8 hours at a dealership between negotiations and signing papers. Now, if you have not gone through the process, maybe because you are just purchasing your first car or someone who has owned a house before a car (cough Rohit cough), then this is a great episode for you!

Have you ever heard of someone who walked into a dealership and walked out of there within 3 hours with a brand new car on their terms with the features and warranty that you want? No, well Glen Rux has! Before we even enter the parking lot, we are already going with the wrong state of mind. In today’s episode, Glen talks about that in details and the action items for us to change that and make it positive for us.

097: Pet Peeves Part 2

097: Pet Peeves Part 2

SHOW DESCRIPTION

Hello Listeners! Welcome to Part 2 of Pet Peeves!

I can already imagine you cringing your teeth as you start remembering our earlier episode on Pet Peeves as you start thinking what ticks you off. If you haven’t listened to that episode, then click here! In the earlier episode, we discussed on how to recognize pet peeves and what it means, but in this episode, we dug deeper and found out how our pet peeves effect not just us, but other people and in reality what do you consider pet peeve?

Pet Peeve is something someone can never resist complaining about. There are all kinds of pet peeves, like littering, misusing punctuation, driving slowly in the fast lane, or talking during movies. If something like that drives you crazy and you have to yap about it, it’s a pet peeve. Pet peeves tend to be smaller issues, but there is a very fine line between pet peeve and being an asshole.

Pet Peeves are very specific things that bother us the most which might not mean anything to others. In part 1, we discovered `It’s challenging to point out behaviors in yourself, but it can be easy by evaluating what are your pet peeves. In this episode, we took that conversation to another level and asked how is it being perceived by others? Does it look stupid? Agreeable? Passive-aggressive? Or are you just coming like an asshole?

Tune in to today’s episode, GET YOUR SH*T TOGETHER and find out if your pet peeve is a pet peeve or are you just making a big deal out of nothing and being an asshole?

What the “Rest of Us” really think…

096: Living Through The Eyes of a Child

096: Living Through The Eyes of a Child

SHOW DESCRIPTION

Did you know that 80% of American feel stuck on a day to day routine? Six in ten go to bed at the same time. Almost half watch TV at the same time each and every day. 77% of Americans know that and look for a way to add excitement in their every day, but it’s not a coincidence that 80% of Americans still end up living in the same manner as they do every day.

Every day 77% of them are looking ways to bring in excitement into their lives and getting their sh*t ready. Heck, I was one of them until not too long ago! I had to do a lot of self-evaluation to get to where I am at, but my day has never been the same ever since and I don’t regret it one bit. If you really think about it, why is it that 80% of us are stuck in the same routine every day? In this episode, we covered a lot that could contribute to this, but one of the main issue as to why we feel the same way and don’t have excitement is because of how we are as an adult and the social expectation of us as an adult.

As an adult, we have been trained to take a look at the big picture of our lives and plan it accordingly so we can pay rent every month. This thought kills our wonderment of exploring something new, the curiosity of being able to find out every single little details of our likes and hobbies, and last but not least the excitement that we used to get as a child while tearing that gift wrapper apart to find out the newest edition of lego set that you been wanting for months. As an adult, we forget to live our lives because we are too busy worrying about all the little aspects. We are too busy to look forward and plan for future and always living 15 mins ahead that we forget to stop, take a deep breath, and smell those roses in the beautiful botanical garden that you drive by every day.

So how can we change that? Simple. Be a child. Look through the eyes of a child and you will find excitement. Don’t believe me? Here’s an exercise: close your eyes and think about your child hood times. Think about the last thing that you saw that was the most amazing thing in your life. What were those? What made it exciting? Who was involved? I will bet you that whatever your case maybe the most exciting thing you experienced was when you were by yourselves and/or within your own mind, in the present, experiencing and living the moment to its fullest and not giving a shit about the future. The reason why you are remembering this most excitement time is because this was YOUR moment. This was YOU being IN the moment being present and finding amusement in the event that you are experiencing.

If we are lucky, we will live to see past 100 years. That’s a long time to live, then why not live the life the way it’s intended to? Why suffer 60+ years living same day in and out? This is your life! Take charge and create new excitement! Imagine your future the way you want it, and bring in amusement and curiosity which is going to lead you with the discovery and wonderment of new adventures. Take charge and get your shit together!

095: Making Friends As Adults

095: Making Friends As Adults

SHOW DESCRIPTION

You know what was the best thing about summer breaks back in school? Literally, do nothing and hang out with my friends! You remember those days when you would wake up at noon, brush your teeth, eat breakfast, skip shower just so you can go down to the neighborhood pool to hang out with your friends and check out all the hotties. Your friends were the whole world to you, but how much does that matter to you now? In today’s episode, we discussed the importance of friends and how easy or hard it is to make friends as an adult.

Some would argue that making friends as a child is easier than making friends as adults, but is it? A child has all the opportunities in the world to make friends: school, after circular activities, dances, grocery shop, toy store, you name it. An adult has all the opportunities in the world to make friends: work, church, hobby classes, grocery shop, you name it. So what is the difference? Friends as a child are selective, where we get to choose who we want to friends with and it is socially acceptable. Friends as an adult are more related to convenience rather than selective. We as an adult will try to seek friendship out of people who spend the most times with: work, gym classes, etc. Some might still be friends with someone from their childhood and some don’t keep touch with any. There is no right or wrong answer to how old your friend is, but here at GYST, what matters is what type of friendship you have?

In the past, we have talked about Circle of Influence and this is where it has a huge impact on. There is no way to evaluate your friends, but there is a way to evaluate yourself to see if you have the right influence. Take a look at your bank account, are you happy with that number? If so, awesome! If not, then take a look at your 10 closest friends. That number represents the average bank account of all your 10 closest friends. Still happy with your answer? If no, then you should listen to our Circle of Influence episode.

In the end, how do YOU define your friends? What do you even consider a friend? How close are you to that friend? As Kyle said, a person that you say hi at a mall is an acquaintance; a person who you invite home is your friend; a person who you take to the airport is close friend; a person who you can call to bail you out of jail at 3 AM for $10k bond is a best friend. Look at your closest friends, define them, evaluate them within your circle of influence and GET YOUR SH*T TOGETHER!
