SHOW DESCRIPTION

Have you ever looked at someone and wondered damn what is it that they are doing that that we are not doing? Or have you ever wondered how is it that someone was broke one day, but sometime later they are the wealthiest people within their group? Or how is it that they have so much passion and excitement for something? Well, it comes down to one thing: Motivation.

Staying motivated is probably one of the hardest things that you can do. Sure, it sounds easy but we all know it’s a lot harder than that, especially for the people who are not as motivated. There are 3 mains things that go into being motivated: Passion, Visualization, and Self-evaluation.

Passion – If you have passion, you can achieve it all! Passion is something that drives people to create beautiful art and music, passion drives people to explore themselves and the world, passion is something that makes you HUNGRY to achieve that goal one way or another. If you have passion, you have your full heart in it which will always keep you motivated.

Visualization – One of the greatest Motivational speaker Jim Rohn said, “Walk away from the 97 percent. Don’t use their excuses. Take charge of your own life.” If you do that and visualize what you want, you will find your motivation. You have cars, house, entertainment system, play toys, and you have gotten those things because you have visualized it and owned it. Now, visualize yourself without it? How do you feel and what can you do to get it back? Instead of imagining what you can have, imagine how your life would be without it. No matter what it is, ask yourself what did it take to achieve those and what would it take to get it back if you lost it? Or moreover, is it even worth focusing yourself to earn that? This will help you get motivated by focusing on the right things.

Self-Evaluation – No matter where you start, at some point, you have to set goals and review them! It doesn’t matter if it’s work, personal or relationship, just set a goal. Then, remind yourself who you are doing it for? Remind yourself why you are here? If you are not providing value to your life or your close ones, then what are you doing?

Now, tune in to today’s episode to find out how does Rohit Rohila, Kyle Reed, and Aaron Eide stay motivated and how they have gotten their SH*T together!

079: How to Meditate

079: How to Meditate

079: How to Meditate

by Amit Bhardwaj, Kamal Kalra, Kyle Reed, Rohit Rohila

SHOW DESCRIPTION

OM. OM. OM.

The first thing that probably comes to your mind when you hear the word “OM” is meditation. You are probably thinking of sitting in a dark room, crisscross, hands on your knees, back straight, eyes closed and focusing on repeating “OM” to find peace and meditate. Well, what if we told you that is not the only way to get your sh*t together and there are other ways of meditating?

In order to fully understand who you truly are; it is important to not only meditate to find peace, but also to reflect on yourself, your life, your relationship, and every single thing that is tied to you.

These following exercises are meant exactly for that, but just like start of any meditation a proper breathing technique is very important. In order to be successful, you have to make sure that you are focusing on your breathing as it will help increase the amount of oxygen going through your body, slows your respiratory rate, increases blood flow to the heart, lowers blood pressure, decreases stress, and places you in a deeper level of relaxation. Once you have your breathing down, try any of the following exercises but make sure to not do all of them at the same time. These exercises are designed to make you think about things you are not used to thinking about which can leave emotionally and mentally drained.

The first exercise is to truly understand who you are and how others view you. Write down 3 people who know you very well; who know you pretty good but not as much as your significant other; and someone who knows but not very well. Once you have identified these 3 people, imagine you are them and see yourself as they would, through your eyes. Imagine how you interact with them and how they would see you, think of you, and act toward you. The goal of the exercise is for you to see how other people view you, and then change what you don’t like.

The second exercise is to identify your stress. Identifying your stress is a key to identify who you truly are as you can be defined by your stress. It can also help you identify where you are with your life at this point and where you like would to be down the road. Grab a piece of paper and write down every single stress and project you currently have going. It doesn’t matter how big or small it is just written it down in no particular order. Also, write down all the tasks and to-do lists and again no matter how big or small it just write it down. From now on, this will be referred as Master List. Now, as you are going on your day to day and as you complete a task that is in your Master List, cross it off repeatedly, so that is no longer legible. This will give you a great sense of accomplishment and pride when you finish something and this will help you strive to cross more items off of your list.

Last by not least exercise is a personal reflection. We are always on the go go go and so busy that we often forget to take care of the most important person in our life, ourselves. For this exercise, ask yourself these questions:

  • Do you make a special effort to thank someone who does you a favor? How do you feel when you aren’t sincerely thanked for going out of your way for someone?
  • If 100 people your age were chosen at random, how many do you think would be living more satisfying lives than yours? Why?
  • What is more important to you, the memory of an event or the experience?
  • Do you let circumstances control your life instead of you? Why?

Try all these 3 exercises at different times and evaluate how it would affect your life. Listen to today’s podcast to hear how it affected the GYST group!

077: Making an Event and Experience

077: Making an Event and Experience

077: Making an Event and Experience

by Amit Bhardwaj, Kyle Reed, Rohit Rohila

SHOW DESCRIPTION

Using the recent Solar Eclipse that was witnessed in the United States, Amit uses that as a catalyst to talk about turning an event into a memory. He traveled to Oregon with Kamal to take that event, and turn it into an experience by camping, going outside of his comfort zone, and making the most of it.

Similarly, Kyle shared about taking a simple local John Legend concert to the next level. Because the tickets were sold out, he decided to fly to California instead with his girlfriend and make a beautiful memory.

Events happen all the time. From going to your mailbox to pick up the junk mail and bills, to getting married. Events also have no meaning until we give them one. That is why for some people a birthday is very important, and for others, it’s just another day. It is the meaning that we give that event that gives it significance.

How do you turn an event into an experience? Well, it depends on your interpretation of that event. For example, Rohit takes pictures… a lot of pictures. From weddings to going to the movies to eating at Taco Bell, he takes pictures of everything. But if you ask him, all those events are meaningful experiences. Mean to be remembered and shared.

In this episode, we talk about the different experiences that we have all shared and how we have taken those experiences to create beautiful memories.

076: Appreciating Your Family

076: Appreciating Your Family

SHOW DESCRIPTION

When we are a kid, we are so embarrassed by our “weird” family, that we pretend we don’t know them when we are at the mall, or we constantly apologize for them when our friends are over. Friends are defiantly more important than family.

As we grow older, and our friends come and go, we realize that being friends forever was a phrase that rarely came true. Our family though, through thick and thin, was always there.

All those weird things that used to embarrass us, are now the traditions we look forward to. We realize the true value of family when something unfortunate happens. The unconditional love and support we see open our eyes, and we see the love that has always been there.

In this episode, we share the 4 positive characteristics of a family:

  • Celebrate your happiness: Friends are there to congratulate you, but family is there to celebrate you.
  • Help you grow: From crawling to walking, diapers to toilet, and right from wrong, they are there to help you grow from an infant to an adult.
  • In it for the long haul: As painful as it is to hear, friends come and grow. In fact, only about 2% of all the people that you meet in school do you ever end up being lifelong friends with. But your family won’t give up on you.
  • Develop your programs (characteristics): Good or bad, right or wrong, all those strange things that you do, the thoughts that you have about money and life, you learned 97% of it from your family.

Also, Amit and Rohit share how their family dynamic has changed since both of their mothers have passed. This is a powerful episode that will make you want to call your family, and just say, “I love you, and thanks for putting up with me.”
