Humans have so many things alike while being so different. Have you wondered why we are so different? What makes us an individual? Why is that we connect better with some individuals over others? What makes YOU different yet connected with rest of humanity? Well, it boils down to 4 things: Lion, Owl, Monkey, and Koala. These are 4 different type of personality traits that every one of us has and understanding how each of these personality trait works will help you succeed in life and have a better relationship with other people.

Lion is a type of an animal that likes to take charge and is quick to respond and just like that 15% of the population have this personality trait. Lions are the go getter who is always leading a group and taking charge. They don’t take bullshit from anyone and get straight to the point because they got shit to do!

Then, we have the people who take forever to make a damn decision! These are the people that are critical thinkers and they like to know the facts and options before making any decision. All they want is not to be wrong; they don’t mind if they are not right.

SQUIRREL! COOKIES! Wonder if recharge bunnies are all hyped up because of an energy drink? Oh yeah, we were talking about personality trait. You might recognize this behavior from someone you know. No, they are not crazy! They just have a monkey personality which gets them super distracted and they end up being all over the place.

Lastly, we have our sweet Koalas. What can I say? They are just so sweet and caring and all they want to do is hold hands, talk about our feelings, see good things happen! These are the type of people who are usually teachers, nurses, and therapist. These are also the hippie tree huggers!

Sounds interesting, right? Want to me it more interesting? Listen to today’s episode to find out how you can leverage this at a party!

077: Making an Event and Experience

077: Making an Event and Experience

077: Making an Event and Experience

by Amit Bhardwaj, Kyle Reed, Rohit Rohila

SHOW DESCRIPTION

Using the recent Solar Eclipse that was witnessed in the United States, Amit uses that as a catalyst to talk about turning an event into a memory. He traveled to Oregon with Kamal to take that event, and turn it into an experience by camping, going outside of his comfort zone, and making the most of it.

Similarly, Kyle shared about taking a simple local John Legend concert to the next level. Because the tickets were sold out, he decided to fly to California instead with his girlfriend and make a beautiful memory.

Events happen all the time. From going to your mailbox to pick up the junk mail and bills, to getting married. Events also have no meaning until we give them one. That is why for some people a birthday is very important, and for others, it’s just another day. It is the meaning that we give that event that gives it significance.

How do you turn an event into an experience? Well, it depends on your interpretation of that event. For example, Rohit takes pictures… a lot of pictures. From weddings to going to the movies to eating at Taco Bell, he takes pictures of everything. But if you ask him, all those events are meaningful experiences. Mean to be remembered and shared.

In this episode, we talk about the different experiences that we have all shared and how we have taken those experiences to create beautiful memories.

076: Appreciating Your Family

076: Appreciating Your Family

SHOW DESCRIPTION

When we are a kid, we are so embarrassed by our “weird” family, that we pretend we don’t know them when we are at the mall, or we constantly apologize for them when our friends are over. Friends are defiantly more important than family.

As we grow older, and our friends come and go, we realize that being friends forever was a phrase that rarely came true. Our family though, through thick and thin, was always there.

All those weird things that used to embarrass us, are now the traditions we look forward to. We realize the true value of family when something unfortunate happens. The unconditional love and support we see open our eyes, and we see the love that has always been there.

In this episode, we share the 4 positive characteristics of a family:

  • Celebrate your happiness: Friends are there to congratulate you, but family is there to celebrate you.
  • Help you grow: From crawling to walking, diapers to toilet, and right from wrong, they are there to help you grow from an infant to an adult.
  • In it for the long haul: As painful as it is to hear, friends come and grow. In fact, only about 2% of all the people that you meet in school do you ever end up being lifelong friends with. But your family won’t give up on you.
  • Develop your programs (characteristics): Good or bad, right or wrong, all those strange things that you do, the thoughts that you have about money and life, you learned 97% of it from your family.

Also, Amit and Rohit share how their family dynamic has changed since both of their mothers have passed. This is a powerful episode that will make you want to call your family, and just say, “I love you, and thanks for putting up with me.”

075: Brain vs Braun

075: Brain vs Braun

075: Brain vs Braun

by Aaron Eeide, Amit Bhardwaj, Kyle Reed, Rohit Rohila, Sam Tea

SHOW DESCRIPTION

Have you ever taken a sick day for mental health day? If not, then you should do ASAP! In today’s episode, GYST team invited Aaron Eeide to talk about the importance of brain workout and how it can help us get our shit together.

What is the difference between average people and successful people? Successful people have realized they want a better life and in order to get that they have to improve their life style. Successful people don’t talk about meal plans or physical workout, but they ask about seminars, books, business tactics to evolve their life skills and implement those changes to their life.

We are always doing a physical workout, but we hardly ever do or even think of brain workout. We associate a physical task with accomplishments and we can see those changes in a short-term so we are more encouraged to keep continuing with it, but with brain workout, we don’t see those immediate results. It’s a long-term goal and it takes us years to see those changes, but those changes are what makes us successful.

Not only that, but brain workout is double the work than a physical workout. We have to not only complete a task by reading a book or going to a seminar, but we have to constantly think about the tips and suggestions and reflect on to your own life and see how it fits. You have to evaluate your life and then implement those changes. Those are not easy goals, but it will be more successful goals.

So next time when you are thinking about taking a sick day, don’t make an excuse. Take a mental day, decompress, and then reevaluate your life.

074: Importance of Friendships

074: Importance of Friendships

SHOW DESCRIPTION

Friendships. How do they start? We either get introduced to someone, or we see them often enough that a friendship just develops.

And when friendships end, it’s one of two ways. Either you slowly lose touch, or a conflict happens and that’s the end.

A famous quote is that “you don’t know what you have till it’s gone”, but what if we visit this and change it around a bit. It’s not necessarily that what hurts is not that we lost them and now we realize their true value, but what hurts is that you never thought you would lose them in the first place.

This is an emotional episode recorded in front of a live audience as we talk about friendships and specifically, the impact of Sam Tea on Kyle Reed & the GYST Podcast
