SHOW DESCRIPTION

Turkey cooking in the oven, football game on the TV, drinking a beer, kids running around the house playing with puppies, and your grandfather taking a nap on a lazy couch. Yup, you guessed it its Thanksgiving! And with Thanksgiving, how can we forget about Black Friday!

We all know how fun and exciting Black Friday shopping is as a consumer, but have you ever wondered how the day is for the lovely associate who sold you your brand new TV? If you have worked in the retail industry on Black Friday like our GYST crew, then you know how much of a pain it can be to work on Black Friday. Today, GYST crew would like to help you get your shit together by providing some tips and tricks that you should do as a consumer:

Be Polite – Being polite is probably one of the first thing that consumer forget to do. Imagine an employee spending an hour with you to go over all the different TV models and finding the best one for you, but then you turn around and walk away without thanking the employee. Not a single acknowledgement was given to him. Be better than that! Get Your Shit Together and turn around and say Thank You! In reality, this employee is making your day, he is providing a smile on your kids face, the least thing you can do is say Thank You for all his help.

Do Research – Don’t just go out to the store on the day of! Do your research beforehand and create a plan! If you know you will be doing large purchases at a specific store, then do 2 things: Go there a week ahead of time and scope out all the extra inventory. This way you will find out what products will most likely be on sale. Second thing you can do is buy discounted gift cards. You can find good deals of preloaded gift card which will end up saving you more money on top of discounted price.

Make a Budget – We can’t be called GYST group, if we don’t tell you to get your shit together and create a budget. How many times have you gone shopping on Black Friday and then realized you have spent $5000 over budget? Do differently this time! Create a list of all the items that you want to purchase and prioritize them. This will help you cut down on purchasing items that you might not need as bad while saving money. Now take this budget and buy a discounted

Just Wait – Not everything is a good deal. You might think that all the great sales come on Black Friday and door buster, but it has been proven that majority of the good sales are either the week before, cyber Monday, or during Christmas season. You might find an item for sale for 30%, but the week before it might have been 40% discount.

087: How to Experience Winter

087: How to Experience Winter

087: How to Experience Winter

by Amit Bhardwaj, Kyle Reed, Rohit Rohila, Ruben Marquez

SHOW DESCRIPTION

There are 2 types of people in this world: Winter people or summer people. If you are anything like me, then you HATE Winter and would like nothing else than the sun shining on your face every day while sitting on a beach drinking Corona. However, here at GYST, we like to do things differently and take advantage of winter. So what can we do to enjoy winter? In Amit Bhardwaj’s words “Go outside and do something or stay inside and reflect”. In today’s podcast, GYST crew invites Ruben Marquez back into the studio to talk about how we can enjoy winter better, especially for individuals like Ruben, where he lived in a place with 103 degrees weather on a Christmas day.

Find Your Inner Child – Take a minute and think about this: When was the last time you built a snowman? No, I am not talking about making one with your kids or whatnot, but when was the last time you unleashed your inner child and built a snowman? Or stopped to relax, sit by the fire, drink on hot cocoa while watching cartoon network or your favorite Christmas Movie? I bet that brought some good old memories. Live those memories again!

Get outside your comfort Zone – So what if you are just bored out of your mind while snowed in your house? Go outside your comfort Zone and do something indoors that you would never do. Find a new TV channel that will up-level your knowledge, research online on topics that you are interested in, and as simple as meditate to clear your mind.

Find a new Hobby – What a better time than to find a new hobby outdoors??? If you love astronomy like Amit, then go out at night and look at stars. If you love photography, then go out and take pictures. If you have always wanted to learn Skiing or Snowboarding, then guess what? You can only do it in winter!

Local Events – Check out websites like events12.com or your local city website for events around you. There are plenty of sources where you can find things to do that you might find interesting.

Pets – For pet owners, take advantage of the winter days! If you have a pet who was bred for cold temperatures, then go out and explore the city with them! Or hiking or parks or whatever. Just go outside and explore with your little fur balls, because they would like nothing better than being in a cold environment with their loved ones.

Be Free –There’s so much out there in this world – be active and go explore! Be open-minded and you will find things that you love that you never even would have thought of before. Who knows you might even find your magic.

What are your interests? Do you like to be indoors or outdoors? If outdoors, then winter is one of the most beautiful time of the year to find a new hobby. If indoors, then find something to do that will get you out of your comfort zone. No matter what it is, don’t let it be just a regular winter; get your shit together and go find something to do!

086: How to Manage Family

086: How to Manage Family

086: How to Manage Family

by Amit Bhardwaj, Kyle Reed, Rohit Rohila, Ruben Marquez

SHOW DESCRIPTION

Hey Fellas! Don’t you just love this time of the year? The crisp fresh cold air, leaves falling, and if you are anything like Rohit Rohila, then you might have a Pumpkin Spice IV going through your body! (P.S. anything pumpkin related would be a great gift for Rohit’s upcoming birthday). With all that, a really important piece of your life plays a role during this time: Family.

In today’s episode, Ruben Marquez joins us as we talk about how to manage and interact with family during the holidays. This is not to be confused with “dealing” with family since it condones a negative message and we don’t want to “deal” with family, but instead address it and get our shit together.

As we start the episode, Rohit and Kyle talk about the importance of family and the fact that we will ALWAYS get into an argument with them. It’s inevitable and bound to happen in all families, but the importance is to not hold on to that grudge but to be a bigger person and let it go. A lot of times, we will hold on to a grudge over an argument that we don’t even remember! We hold on to this anger which has a negative impact to our relationship, but in the end who is it really hurting? How long ago was it? If we can’t even justify our grudge, then it’s time to let it go. The matter of fact is family will always be there, in thick or thin. Your friends will come and go, but your family will be there to bounce you back.

When we usually think of family, we will think of our immediate family, but guess what? We have a whole ancestry that is related to us that we don’t even think about, yet, every year we see part of that and don’t learn anything new. Most times at a family Christmas party or Thanksgiving Dinner, we will usually have fluff conversation with our distant relatives who are visiting, but we never get to know them on a deeper level. Why is that? We have these amazing people in our lives that are connected to us through distant family and they have these amazing stories, experiences, even family history, but we hardly engage with them. So how do we change that? To start, go outside your comfort zone and spike up a conversation with a group of your relative. Find a common ground and strike up a conversation and see the magic unfold in front of your eyes. Alternatively, find a specific person that you really want to get to know better. Doesn’t matter who it is from 5 year old cousin to 90 year old great grandma,  spend some alone time with them and get to know them on a personal level.

So guys this is your time to get your shit together with your family. I challenge you if you are holding on to a family grudge, evaluate and be a bigger person and either talk it out with them or get to know them on a deeper level. In the end, no one is going to be more relieved and feel amazing other than you.

084: Living With Negative People

084: Living With Negative People

084: Living With Negative People

by Amit Bhardwaj, Keynan Bailey, Kyle Reed, Rohit Rohila

Podcast episodes we mentioned in this podcast:

SHOW DESCRIPTION

Have you ever felt trapped in a negative environment? Do you feel like constant negativity is affecting your health and life? Or has it increased over the years? If so, you are not alone. There are thousands and thousands of people in this world who feel the same way, but that also means there are thousands and thousands of people who are the one to cause that negativity! It’s like they are human black holes that just capture you in the vortex and pull you right into their negativity.

Before we can work toward being more positive, we have to define what negativity is and how it is affecting you. More than that, YOU have to define what negative means for you. We all have different lives with different interactions which play a huge role into how we come across negativity, so how does it come to you; is it from coworker, relative, spouse, animals, or just some activity? Define that and you are already moving in a right direction.

Once you have identified the negativity, try and understand without overanalyzing it. Take some time and figure out what is about this specific thing that is so negative and what can you do to change it? If someone or something is being negative to you, then more than likely it will be easier to change yourself or your reaction for good rather than having an expectation of someone else changing for you. By identifying the negativity, you can change your behavior towards it to attract more positivity toward yourself.

BUT, what if YOU are the negative one? Do you know if your negativity is stressing someone else? How do you truly know how others view you? A lot of times, we don’t even realize that we are making a negative impact on someone until it’s too late!

To start, follow this simple exercise that we showed in our episode 79: How to meditate.

Exercise to follow: Do this exercise now to truly understand who you are and how others view you. Write down 3 people who know you very well; who know you pretty good but not as much as your significant other; and someone who knows but not very well. Once you have identified these 3 people, imagine you are them and see yourself as they would, through your eyes. Imagine how you interact with them and how they would see you, think of you, and act toward you. The goal of the exercise is for you to see how other people view you, and then change what you don’t like.

Remember that the negative behavior is a pure reflection of a person. It’s not a reflection of who you are (if you are on the positive side), but it tells you what kind of a person and negativity they hold, and what really triggers them. Or, in case if it’s you, it helps you understand what ticks you off and what can you do to change that unwanted behavior.

So GET YOUR SH*T TOGETHER and welcome Keynan Bailey as he talks about how negativity has affected him and what he is doing to change that!
