068: How to find your magic?

by Amit Bhardwaj, Kamal Kalra, Kyle Reed, Rohit Rohila, Same Tea

SHOW DESCRIPTION

What are you good at?  What drives you? What is something you love to do? These are the questions that we often think about which can lead you to find your own magic.

This week’s episode features Rohit, Kyle, Amit, and Kamal as they talk about how to truly find your magic. Some of us already know what our magic is while others are still trying to find it. Often it’s easy for others to define what you are good at but extremely hard for us to admit it. We must remember to evaluate ourselves and ask what are we good at compared to an average person and that’s where we will find our magic. Here are also few things to think about to find your magic:

  • What are you a trusted advisor for? – People come to us all the time for assistance because they know we will have a better and faster response. Think about all the things that your friends and family come to you to seek guidance on. It could be something that you are very good at or just have a lot of knowledge on. It could be your occupation or a hobby. Find your magic by exploring it through other people’s point of view.
  • Researching Topics – Is there something that you often research on? Your passion for more information on these topics is a roadway to finding your magic. List out all the things that you are often researching and find a common link which will lead to finding your magic.
  • What puts a smile on your face? – This is something that we always forget to see which is directly linked to your magic or your passion. What is something that you just truly love to do and puts a big smile on your face? Magic doesn’t have to be something that you make money off of; it could be something very simple that you are good at and puts a big smile on your face while doing it.

Magic isn’t just one thing. It can be a hobby. It can be your occupation. Or it can be something that you just do without even realizing you have the magic. Tune into this week’s episode to hear how some of the GYST members found their magic and how these tips can help you find your magic to get your sh*t together!

067: 6 Steps to Being the Life of the Party

067: 6 Steps to Being the Life of the Party

by Amit, Bhardwaj Kyle Reed, Rohit Rohila, Sam Tea

SHOW DESCRIPTION

The GYST Podcast Crew like to consider ourselves as some very social people. We attend lots of concerts, events, and parties. We realize that even though we feel comfortable at these types of events, not everyone does, so we put our brains together and came up with 6 steps to becoming the life of the party. Caution: only follow these 6 steps if you want to have more fun!

  • Be a host, not a guest: Just because you didn’t plan the party, doesn’t mean you can’t play the host. Introduce yourself to every guest and then make sure they meet other people as well. The actual host will be so busy making sure the party is going on smoothly, that they will thank you for taking on this role.
  • Don’t box people out: Most people when they are engaged in conversation, will face the person they are talking to. Although this is a great thing to do when it’s a more intimate setting, at a party this gives off the message that this is a closed conversation. Instead if you turn and open a bit, this invites others to join you.
  • Talk to the “lonelies”: See those people over there, the ones standing by themselves, or on their phones? They didn’t come to a party to do those things so go help them out by starting a conversation with them.
  • Go straight to the back: This is a trick that really helps others see you as the life of the party. When you go straight to the back, you walk by all the friends that you have, you say hi to them, ad others see you as being well connected.
  • Keep your hands empty: At a party, the most hand gestures and body language that you use, the more you will attract others to you. Holding onto a plate of food, or a drink, or anything else can get in the way. And whatever you do, don’t put those hands in your pockets!
  • Ask who they are, not what they do: “Hi, my name is Amit”… “Oh hi Amit, so what do you do?” STOP THIS! No one wants to talk about work outside of work, especially at a party. But that’s what we do, our default go to question is “what do you do”. Don’t define people by their occupation, instead ask, “What are some things you like to do?”

066: Attending A Personal Development Seminar

by Amit Bhardwaj, Kyle Reed, Rohit Rohila, Sam Tea

SHOW DESCRIPTION

This week the GYST crew talk about Personal Development Seminars, and the importance of attending them. This episode comes just one week before Rohit’s own Discovery & Awareness Workshop Seminar, which most of the crew will be attending.

For Kyle, this will be his second time attending this episode, and he shared a few of this most memorable moments. This included just the level of pure emotional exhaustion that can result from challenging your beliefs for the first time.

Sam has attended a seminar before, but it was an informational one that taught you how to write books. In this type of a seminar, it is your traditional lecture type.

And for Amit, this will be his very first seminar. He shared his excitement for it.

Although Kamal was not present during this recording, he will also be there.

Rohit shared the importance of going into a seminar with your “cup empty.” Mostly, don’t go in only searching for the information that you already agree with. Instead, pay attention to the things you don’t agree with, challenge yourself on why that is. Because if you don’t challenge your beliefs, you won’t grow.

It will be interesting to see the results that the crew has after the seminar. Maybe this is the start of an evolution of Get Your Sh*t Together Podcast!

065: Adventure Day!!!

by Amit Bhardwaj, Kyle Reed, Rohit Rohila, Sam Tea

SHOW DESCRIPTION

A few weeks ago while having lunch, Kyle, Sam, and Rohit were talking about how they felt that we all didn’t hang out enough outside of lunches and recording podcasts. So we came up with an amazing, yet random, idea. Why not get together, draw each other’s names out of a hat, and then plan a 6-hour adventure day for that person. Then come back and record a podcast about it.
So we did just that. Amit and Kyle drew each other’s names, and Sam and Rohit drew each other’s names. At 9 am, we all checked our emails and got our instructions for the day. What followed was an epic day filled with adventure. And adventure that we would like to share with you.

064: I’m Just too busy to…

064: I’m Just too busy to…

SHOW DESCRIPTION

Have you ever had a goal so big it seemed far-fetched and that you would never accomplish it? Some would call this an unattainable dream. What Rohit and Kyle call it is an opportunity for a podcast episode!
While discussing what to review for the week, Rohit and Kyle stumbled upon 4 key traits or action items if you will, that are critical to achieving your dreams.
We begin this episode with Kyle discussing the importance of breaking up your goals into small chunks. Evaluating what needs to be accomplished and setting markers along the way. The importance of small victories should never be overlooked!
Rohit gets into the importance and value of your time. What are you doing watching Netflix shows for 4 hours a day when you have goals to accomplish?!? Rohit also hones in on how we can allow other people be a detriment to our time. At a certain point, we need to say no to things that are not adding value to our life and consume much of our time. We only get 24 60 minute chunks a day! Use them wisely.
Beat the crap out of procrastination! Kyle has battled with procrastination for what seems like forever. This is something that can be addressed by scheduling tasks that are necessary to complete your goal. One key to this comes from a quote from Neil Degrasse Tyson. “The knowledge of your impending death should create the urgency and focus…”
Lastly, Rohit reviews the value of finances. Now, money isn’t everything, although along with time, it is one of the most important forms of currency. How do you manage your money? What is your net income? How much debt do you have? Do you even have any clue how long it would take to pay off your credit card and how much it would cost if you paid the minimum?!? It’s shocking! The financial philosophy of ignorance is bliss is not the way to go. Also, pay real close attention to the 70/10/10/10 rule.
These are some things that our crew has found that really help them along the way in completing their wildest goals and dreams.
