SHOW DESCRIPTION

When we are kids, we have a ton of friends. Everywhere you look is an opportunity to meet new people. When you are in high school and college, that trend continues. But when you are an adult, things change. Your friends are now either your co-workers or people that you went to school with. Those same opportunities that existed before just aren’t there unless we create them.

Also, when we are younger, we aren’t picky about the types of friends we have. As we grow, we realize though that we need friends who are positive and will support us.

This episode starts off with Rohit sharing about a time when he recognized that he wanted someone to be a close friend. So, he just went up to her and asked her if she would like to be friends. It was awkward, it was uncomfortable, but it accelerated their friendship and they are stronger because of it.

Kyle mentioned having a “Board of Directors” in your life. People who will be open and honest with you, and provide valuable constructive feedback into helping you be the best version of you possible. This includes friends, co-workers, mentors. Take them out to a nice dinner and ask them to help you. This topic is also brought up in the episode Circle of Influence. Make sure this group is made of people that you trust and will take this topic seriously.

Towards the end, Amit brings up some incredible points on who you want to be in your Circle of Influence and who are the friends that you should and shouldn’t invest in. Just because you have known someone for years, doesn’t mean that those friendships need to continue to be invested in. Often times we only have friends that we met at a certain time in our lives, and it’s best to leave that relationship in the past.

Most friendships will fall into 2 buckets:

  • The ones that you have fun with
  • The ones that help you grow

And both are important and valuable!
