073: How do you define Culture?
Here at GYST podcast, we love to explore different cultures. Heck, every single person in this podcast is from a different culture! But, if you dig deep down, what exactly is culture? How do you define culture?
There is no easy way to define culture as you can see in everything. We often associate culture with religion, but in fact, there’s a whole world out there where we don’t see it as a culture. In today’s episode, Rohit asks us a very important question to define culture within ourselves what can you do to enrich your life? And, what are the finer things in life?
In Kamal’s eyes, culture is about the characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people, language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music, and arts. It’s the deeper meaning of passing knowledge from generation to generation. It’s about gaining the knowledge on how information and stories were being passed to different generations through plays, symphonies, movies and etc.
What’s interesting about culture is that there’s no specific way to define culture. Cristina De Rossi, an anthropologist believes “Culture encompasses religion, food, what we wear, how we wear it, our language, marriage, music, what we believe is right or wrong, how we sit at the table, how we greet visitors, how we behave with loved ones, and a million other things.”
Culture can be defined in million ways. We are no experts, but what we can say is that a good way to sum up culture is by experiencing experiences that are not in your norm and being outside your comfort zone, but growing yourself by understanding each other.
The only way you are going to experience it is by going outside your comfort zone. So get out there, define what culture is to YOU, explore, and GET YOUR SH*T TOGETHER!
