063: “I want to but…”

063: “I want to but…”

SHOW DESCRIPTION

When we first started this podcast, we had one major intention, to help people get their sh*t together. This is one of those episodes where we really help you do that, but not in our typical way.

This episode features Kyle & Rohit as they talk about what people truly mean, when they say, “I want to but….”. See the majority of the times that we use this phrase, it’s because there is something that we don’t want to do, like helping someone move or take someone to the airport. We feel that by saying we want to, that we are letting the person know we are still being a good friend, however there are external circumstances that are preventing us from being able to help. Everything from an early meeting to not having a babysitter.

But what about those times that we say we DO want to do something, and still say “I want to, but…”. What is the message that we are saying then? What does it mean about our intentions? Most of the time when we say this, what our subconscious is really saying is, “This sounds interesting, but I really have no intention of ever doing it.”

Think about how often you use that phrase without any real intention of doing anything… “I want to go to the gym but….”, “I want to lose weight but…”, “I want to get a new job but….”.

Now the challenge, listen to this episode. Then listen to yourself. How often do you say that phrase and what do you really mean to say?

062: Support Groups Outside My Circle

SHOW DESCRIPTION

What this episode started off as, compared to how it finished will have you saying that we need to Get OUR Sh*t Together!
Sam was out sick and Kyle had an emergency, so this one is just Amit and Rohit. Before recording, Amit was talking to Rohit about all the major events he dealt with recently, the passing of his mom, the multiple surgeries he had, as well as getting married. He felt that one of his major motivating factors was the support he got from the Podcast crew. So the episode was going to be about the positive influences that a social group can bring.
About 10 minutes into the episode, the conversation shifted and the episode was changed to how key positive moments can transform your entire day! Amit went on to talk about two key moments, in the hospital and before his wedding reception, where everything changed for him.
It’s easy for us to hold onto negativity and let that bring us down. This downward spiral starts off with a little bit of energy. But just as a wave gathers more energy and has the possibility of becoming a tsunami, so does our own energy.
A recent trip to the movies showed Rohit just what a change in attitude can mean. When he went to the movies with one of his friends, a person who arrived late to the movies shouted out the name of his friend so that he could easily find him. Not only was this very rude, but caused a huge disruption to the packed theater. The guy just laughed as people let him know how rude he was. While Rohit paid no attention and immediately went back to enjoying the movie, his friend had the opposite attitude. Even after the movie ended and they were enjoying a nice dinner, his friend was still steamed at the guy, talking about how inconsiderate he was. Same event, two different people, two different experiences, one negative and one positive. Who do you think enjoyed the movie and dinner more?
We all have these moments in our lives, every day where we are given the opportunity to see the positive and smile, or let the negative cascade and down us in a sea of negativity.
