by Amit Bhardwaj, Kyle Reed, Rohit Rohila, Ruben Marquez

SHOW DESCRIPTION

Hey Fellas! Don’t you just love this time of the year? The crisp fresh cold air, leaves falling, and if you are anything like Rohit Rohila, then you might have a Pumpkin Spice IV going through your body! (P.S. anything pumpkin related would be a great gift for Rohit’s upcoming birthday). With all that, a really important piece of your life plays a role during this time: Family.

In today’s episode, Ruben Marquez joins us as we talk about how to manage and interact with family during the holidays. This is not to be confused with “dealing” with family since it condones a negative message and we don’t want to “deal” with family, but instead address it and get our shit together.

As we start the episode, Rohit and Kyle talk about the importance of family and the fact that we will ALWAYS get into an argument with them. It’s inevitable and bound to happen in all families, but the importance is to not hold on to that grudge but to be a bigger person and let it go. A lot of times, we will hold on to a grudge over an argument that we don’t even remember! We hold on to this anger which has a negative impact to our relationship, but in the end who is it really hurting? How long ago was it? If we can’t even justify our grudge, then it’s time to let it go. The matter of fact is family will always be there, in thick or thin. Your friends will come and go, but your family will be there to bounce you back.

When we usually think of family, we will think of our immediate family, but guess what? We have a whole ancestry that is related to us that we don’t even think about, yet, every year we see part of that and don’t learn anything new. Most times at a family Christmas party or Thanksgiving Dinner, we will usually have fluff conversation with our distant relatives who are visiting, but we never get to know them on a deeper level. Why is that? We have these amazing people in our lives that are connected to us through distant family and they have these amazing stories, experiences, even family history, but we hardly engage with them. So how do we change that? To start, go outside your comfort zone and spike up a conversation with a group of your relative. Find a common ground and strike up a conversation and see the magic unfold in front of your eyes. Alternatively, find a specific person that you really want to get to know better. Doesn’t matter who it is from 5 year old cousin to 90 year old great grandma,  spend some alone time with them and get to know them on a personal level.

So guys this is your time to get your shit together with your family. I challenge you if you are holding on to a family grudge, evaluate and be a bigger person and either talk it out with them or get to know them on a deeper level. In the end, no one is going to be more relieved and feel amazing other than you.
